Slept-In

My morning didn't start off so great. I forgot to set my alarm clock last night and ended up being 45 minutes late for work. To make up the time, I skipped my lunch break. Thakfully this is day 6 of a 6 day stretch and tomorrow is a day off.
No workouts for me today. Tommorrow I plan on a 6Km workout around the track at my local YMCA.

Training Week 1: November 23-29

This week went well. It was my first week of training since officially registering for the Half-Marathon. I ran a total of 19.4 Kms. All of my workouts were on the Treadmill.

After my final workout of the week, I was having some minor discomfort above my right knee. After a good nights rest the discomfort was gone.

I also practiced some visulization as I was running. In the last mile of my workout, I visulized that it was the last mile of my Half-Marathon. I pictured the finish line up ahead. My wife and daughters there waiting for me. They all have a look of pride on their faces. I give my wife one of the biggest hugs ever. Even though she can't stand to touch me after a workout. She gets grossed out by sweat. I also pictured my mother waiting at the finish line.

About a year and a half ago, my mother chose a man over her own son and grandchildren. After raising me single handedly and for 27 years being the best friend I ever had. She chose to walk out of my life forever. She wouldn't admit it, but she's ashamed of me. I pictured her at the finish line because part of me wants her to be there to show her what she walked out on. To show her my accomplisments outweigh my failures.

While listening to my MP3 Player during one of my workouts, the song Cleaning Out My Closet by Eminem came on. I have the song on my MP3 Player because I think it's a good song. But this time there was actually a personal connection to this song.

Registered for My First Half

I have finally decided to take the plunge. Not that plunge. I'm already married. The plunge I'm talking about is that I have registered for my first Half-Marathon. It is the Winnipeg Police Services Half-Marathon. I have given myself plenty of time to train. Race day is May 3rd, 2009. I'm excited and nervous at the same time.
I'm excited because it is my first Half-Marathon and nervous because I hate to fail. I chose this race as my first Half-Marathon because of the charity that it supports, the Canadian Cancer Society. Cancer has affected many people in my family. Cancer took away both my grandmothers, as well as my step-grandfather. These three people were very supportive of me my entire life. They believed in me and admired my determination. My sister-in-law also battled Cancer earlier this year. I think that I have more than enough motivation to run this race.
